The Armadale Strategic Metropolitan Centre Structure Plan is now a step closer, with the City of Armadale awarding the tender to Perth planning and architectural group Hassell.
Armadale is designated as one of eight existing Strategic Metropolitan Centres in the State Planning Policy SPP 4.2, which requires the City to develop a structure plan to guide future development of the area.
The City has submitted that Armadale, Rockingham, Joondalup and Midland, should be the four ‘primary’ activity centres surrounding the Perth CBD.
Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said this is an exciting time of rapid growth for the City of Armadale with the forecast population to be 144,827* by 2036, an increase of 57,390 on the 2016 population.
“With a larger population and a growth in business premises to service this increase, it is essential that areas within the City centre undergo careful planning and management to accommodate these changes.
“The plan will include a focus on accessibility to CBD destinations, travel modes and parking to prevent future congestion issues.
“Future trends indicate that many people will appreciate the advantage of inner City and high density living, close proximity to public transport, commercial precincts and the City Centre”, he said.
The Armadale Strategic Metropolitan Centre Structure Plan will guide, promote and motivate future land use and development to continue to strengthen the Centre as the primary Activity Centre within the South East Metropolitan Sub-Region.
The structure plan will also set directions for new development and facilitate continuing economic development and employment as the City evolves as the primary regional centre for culture and arts, tourism, shopping, entertainment, employment and education.
