Construction of the City of Armadale’s newest sports and community facility is now underway in Harrisdale.

The 4.7 hectare Harrisdale Community and Sporting Pavilion and oval is located on Gracefield Boulevard between the Harrisdale Primary School and Harrisdale High School. Both schools are currently under construction, with the primary school scheduled to open for the 2016 school year and the high school set to open in 2017.

The facility will include a multi-purpose playing field with lighting, pavilion for sports and community use, playground and car park. The pavilion will feature four change rooms, multi-purpose function rooms, kitchen/kiosk, alfresco area, storage areas and tiered outdoor seating for spectators.

The City of Armadale funded more than $7 million for the facility, in addition to an $800,000 grant provided through the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund.

The oval and car park are due to be completed in February/March 2016, with the Pavilion due for completion later in the year.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said the sports and community facility would provide a much needed amenity in one of the fastest growing regions in the City’s western suburbs.

“Harrisdale’s population is predicted to increase to 20,562 by 2036 - a staggering 157 per cent increase,” he said

“The City has been working towards this facility for some time and I am delighted to announce the start of construction.

“A community amenity of this nature provides a central shared use space that brings residents together and further develops their sense of community.”
