Members of the Armadale Society of Artists have put their talent to the test, creating 500 original artworks to present to local volunteers in honour of Thank a Volunteer Day.

The City of Armadale commissioned the designs, providing both a major fundraising opportunity for the Society and a novel thank you gesture for volunteer groups within the City. The gifts will be given to volunteers at various end of year functions in the coming month.

“The effort from Society members to create 500 original pieces in a short space of time has been fantastic,” Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said.

“The City’s volunteers are an incredibly valuable resource, providing a range of resources, services and support to help build a stronger community.

“Volunteering can often be an unthankful task that bears no reward other than the accomplishment of helping others, so this gesture of appreciation with a unique artwork is our way of saying thank you for your commitment to the City and its people.”

About Thank a Volunteer Day
In 1985, the United Nations recognised the first International Volunteer Day to celebrate the important role volunteers play in communities around the world.
In Australia, International Volunteer Day has been designated as a day for recognising volunteer involvement; a day in which organisations can thank their volunteer staff.
At the conclusion of the International Year of Volunteers in 2001, the Premier of Western Australia announced that in future years, 5 December would become 'Thank a Volunteer Day' in Western Australia.
