The sixth meeting of the LIC Armadale/Murray Local Implementation Committee (LIC) was held at the City of Armadale on Tuesday 3 June 2014.
Chairperson of the LIC, Mayor Henry Zelones said "The LIC acknowledged the excellent work and progress reported by the Working Groups.
"The LIC representatives from Armadale and Murray expressed their disappointment at the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s withdrawal from the LIC and cessation of participation in the Working Groups.
"The LIC expressed that despite the uncertainty about the final outcome of LG Reform and the withdrawal of SJ’s participation, it is important that the efforts of the Working Groups continue as the Government’s agenda to halve the number of local governments in the metropolitan area remains clear.
"In progressing with their work, the LIC and Working Groups will continue to seek information from Serpentine Jarrahdale as we seek to achieve the best outcome for potentially affected communities and staff.
"The newly appointed Project Officer – Local Government Reform commenced with the City on Monday 9 June, to progress Reform related matters.
"Due to the general disappointment at the level of funding for LG Reform announced in the State budget, most local governments involved, including Armadale and Murray, are working with WALGA (the West Australian Local Government Association) to achieve a better financial outcome for all of the communities involved," said Mayor Zelones.
The next meeting of the LIC will be on Tuesday 1 July 2014, at the Shire of Murray.
