Former Armadale Mayor and Councillor Roger Stubbs AM has been recognised for two decades of service to the Armadale community and named as Honorary Freeman of the Municipality.

The rarely-bestowed Honorary Freeman title is the City’s highest civic honour and was presented, along with a framed certificate and gold medallion, to Mr Stubbs at a civic dinner held this week.

Mr Stubbs served Armadale as a Mayor for eight of his nineteen years as a Councillor. He was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in 2002 for service to local government and the community and has served on numerous organisations and committees to progress the planning and growth of metropolitan Perth and Armadale.

While presenting the former Councillor with his honorary title, Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said Mr Stubbs’ influence on the City of Armadale during his 19 year tenure had been profound.

“Whether as Councillor, Chair of committees or as Mayor, Mr Stubbs remained visionary and led our council and community through a period of structural reform and urban change,” he said.

“Mr Stubbs contributed two decades of service to the community and local government and represented the industry to Federal and State Governments with distinction,

“As a Chairperson, mediator and negotiator he has few peers and his presentation to the media or general public was always authoritative and informed.

“I was very pleased and proud to present Mr Stubbs with this well-deserved honour.”
