The City is acting upon recent concerns over a growing number of drivers parking on footpaths, kerbs and corners, putting both pedestrians and motorists at risk.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP is encouraging residents and visitors to be more considerate of others when parking.

“The City has received a number of complaints in relation to vehicles parked on footpaths.

“Parking on the footpath is dangerous to pedestrians as well as being illegal. Motorists need to ensure that the footpath area is kept clear for people to walk. Many motorists do not realise the difficulties they can cause pedestrians when they park their vehicles across footpaths,” said Mayor Henry Zelones.

“We are a developing community and have a lot of trade vehicles in and around our newer suburbs in particular. All vehicles, whether work or personal, must abide by local laws and park correctly at all times.

“Footpaths are constructed to provide a safe walking environment for pedestrians. Vehicles parked illegally on footpaths unfairly obstruct pedestrians, and vehicles parked too close to verges or corners create safety concerns for drivers - significantly increasing the risk of an accident.

“Vehicles that are parked illegally can obstruct visibility, hinder the flow of traffic and put local pedestrians and school children at risk. Those who do not park correctly or fail to comply with requests from the City may face a fine of up to $1000,” he said.

The City is committed to keeping local roads and footpaths safe for the benefit of all residents. The City of Armadale Ranger Services will continue to be vigilant to ensure the safety of pedestrians is maintained.

If you see a vehicle that has been parked dangerously contact Ranger Services on 9399 0111.
