The City of Armadale urges residents to check and secure fencing of properties that contain animals, including pool security fencing, especially during and after any severe weather conditions.
Mayor Henry Zelones said properties throughout the City can sustain damage to fencing and property owners may be unaware of any weakness.
"Unfortunately, as a result of the bad weather, or storm damage, animals can escape from a previously secure backyard.
"This situation can be very distressing for everyone involved, and highlights the need to ensure that fencing to contain animals is given a high priority and checked, especially prior to and after severe weather conditions.
“Swimming pool owners are also encouraged to remain vigilant after any severe weather conditions and ensure security fences and gates remain in good condition around pools,” said Mayor Zelones.
Should your dog or cat go missing, check the City's website for images of impounded animals, and remember the City’s Rangers can re-unite you with your animal quicker if your pet has a microchip implanted.
Your cat or dog’s microchip implant gives your pet the best chance of returning home to you if lost.
However, a microchip must be registered with the City, along with your current contact information, in order to identify you as your pet’s owner and enable Rangers to contact you. Even pets belonging to the most responsible owners can and do go missing, so ensure you do everything to ensure you can find yours again.
