The City of Armadale is encouraging residents to minimise waste this Christmas and utilise the Drop-n-Shop Reuse Centre, based at the Hopkinson Road Landfill and Recycling Centre.

The Drop’n’Shop has operated since 2005 with the aim of returning useable second-hand items to the community, rather than into landfill.

The centre accepts a wide range of items for free, including furniture, kitchenware, garden items, bric-a-brac, toys, books and clothing which can all be given a second life.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said at this time of year there is a huge amount of old or unwanted items, including Christmas packaging that finds its way into rubbish bins and consequently into landfill.

“During the festive season many of us are not only giving and receiving gifts, but updating and replacing household items, many of which still have life left in them.

“Rather than waiting for the City’s kerb side junk collection, or throwing old or unused goods into the rubbish bin, residents can take their unwanted items to the Armadale Landfill and Recycling Facility and be part of the recycling effort.

“One person’s trash is another person’s treasure and there are some great bargains to be had at extremely competitive prices,” he said.

The first stop in clearing the Christmas clutter is to drop off items that can be reused at the Drop’n’Shop, then onto the landfill and recycling facility where many recyclable items can be disposed of at no charge.

Opening times over the holiday season and further information can be found on the City’s website www.armadale.wa.gov.au.
