We can all play a part in reducing graffiti and keeping our City a beautiful place to live. The most important thing community members should do in the case of graffiti vandalism is report it immediately.

“The quicker graffiti is reported, the quicker it can be removed,” said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP.

“Research shows graffiti vandals crave notoriety so the sooner graffiti is cleaned up the less likely it is to reoccur.”

Reporting graffiti is easy, you can phone the City of Armadale on 9399 0111, the State Graffiti Hotline on 1800 44 22 55, or the WA Police Graffiti Team on 9222 2733, or go online www.goodbyegraffiti.wa.gov.au.

In the case of offensive graffiti, it is best to call the City immediately, so it can be removed within 24 hours.

Contractors are employed by the City of Armadale to remove graffiti from Council infrastructure within two working days.

The City also provides financial and administrative support for community volunteers, such as the Armadale-based Civic Pride Action Group, who undertake graffiti removal from private homes and small businesses once it is reported to the City. We welcome the implementation of the new Graffiti Vandalism Enforcement Act which will increase police powers, improve provision for clean-up orders and introduce greater fines and punishment for serial offenders.

“We actively support measures to prevent and reduce the incidence of graffiti, which includes providing information to the community and working with police to help identify offenders,” said Mayor Zelones.

“The key to minimising this kind of vandalism is for all stakeholders – the City, Police, State Government, community members and property owners - to work towards the same goal.”

As well as reporting offences on the www.goodbyegraffiti.wa.gov.au members of the public can access useful information about removal of graffiti and prevention strategies, including school education programs.
