Renowned vocalist Katherine John will lead Armadale’s first ever pop up pub choir experience at the Ye Olde Narrogin Inne every Friday until 17 May, as part of Armadale Arts Festival.
Whether you’re a serious songbird or just looking for a different kind of night out, the Pop-Up Pub Choir is an event not to be missed.
Katherine John has been overseeing the pub choir at Newport Pub in Fremantle, and said everyone who attends has a great time, forming new friendships and learning how to sing popular tunes.
“The songs we will sing are all well known, and we choose songs which vocally have a bit of power to them, so you and your friends can belt them out, just like any other great night out at the pub.”
“You can sing as loud as you like, and no one will judge you – in fact we encourage it,” Katherine said.
The pub choir phenomenon is sweeping the world, with singing reported to deliver many health benefits including lowering stress levels, helping with sleep, and improving mental alertness.
Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the Pop-Up Pub Choir will be part of the Armadale Arts Festival for the first time this year.
“It is a great way for community members to unite in song, while having a great evening with friends or family,” Mayor Zelones said.
Katherine John is a successful performer, currently lead vocalist for popular Perth band Slim Jim and The Phatts. She is also working on her own solo album, and heads KJEntertainment and locally based music school Classic Sounds School of Music, as well as serving as Vocal Director for Major Productions.
The Pop-Up Pub Choir will be held on Friday 3, 10 and 17 May and is free to enter, however bookings are essential. Visit armadaleartsfestival.com.au to secure your place.
