Throughout the year the City of Armadale hosts a series of Positive Ageing Forums at the Armadale Library, to engage older members of the community.
These popular sessions are held every month and cover a wide range of topics such as safety and security, art and craft, health and physical activities for older people.
The next forum will be held on Wednesday 3 September from 1.30 to 4pm and will highlight two vital health factors in ageing confidently. The first presentation commencing at 1.30pm will be ‘Would you recognise a heart attack?’
An Ambassador from the Heart Foundation will present information on the heart, heart health and advise of the warning signs of a potential heart attack. A short overview of the work the Heart Foundation carries out will also be discussed.
Mayor Henry Zelones said many people who have a heart attack usually experience some warning signs; however heart attack warning signs may not be what you think.
“Symptoms vary and they may not always be severe. So it’s very important to learn the warning signs, because the sooner you recognise your heart attack and get treatment, the better,” said Mayor Zelones.
The second presentation ‘Facts about organ and tissue donation’ commences at 3pm and will be presented by Simone McMahon AM, CEO and founder of the Organ Donation & Transplant Foundation of WA.
Simone will cover all the important facts needed to help you make an informed decision about organ and tissue donation for you and your loved ones. A special guest speaker will share her personal journey while awaiting a lung transplant.
Refreshments will be provided between sessions. Bookings are essential. Please call Armadale Library on 9399 0125.
