The Minnawarra Art Awards will once again be at the Armadale District Hall from Saturday 2 May until Sunday 17 May, 11am to 4pm daily at the Armadale District Hall, corner Jull Street and Church Avenue, Armadale.

The exhibition has attracted some of WA’s most highly regarded artists including Yuko Takahashi, who had work in this year’s Sculpture by the Sea and Eva Fernandez who won last year’s Gerry Gauntlett Award.

A variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, textiles, and photography will be on display. All pieces will be in the running for $16,000 worth of award and acquisition prizes.

“The Minnawarra Art Awards is a key event in the City’s calendar. This year we are exhibiting 65 artists; 15 artists who live locally in the City, and 16 regional artists from as far away as Albany,” said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP.

“This year we are placing more focus on the development of our local arts community by hosting professional development sessions.

“Artists will have a chance to learn more about how to market themselves to the media with arts consultant Paula Silbert. In an effort to foster the creativity of our young artists Minnawarra Art Awards Curator Kristy Gough will host a professional development session for local art teachers.

“Our corporate supporters Stockland and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority have once again come to the table providing substantial prizes in the form of cash, acquisitions and commissions.

“Entrants will vie for cash prizes and acquisitions worth $16,000, including the coveted non-acquisitive Gerry Gauntlett Award of $5000.

“This event is a fantastic opportunity to view some incredible pieces of work right here in the heart of Armadale,” he said.
