The City of Armadale will implement parking restrictions on Wright Road, Piara Waters to ensure the safety of footpath users.
Council this week voted to install parking control signs in the form of ‘No Stopping Road or Verge’ along the boundary of the Piara Waters Oval.
Mayor Henry Zelones said a high proportion of visitors to the facility are parking along the footpath and road edge along the southern side of Wright Road, due to its close proximity to the oval.
“Since the completion of the Piara Waters facilities some drivers are electing to park along the footpath and road edge of Wright Road adjacent to the oval, which puts pedestrians and those in gophers or wheelchairs at risk of injury, particularly during peak usage of the oval, because they are forced off the path and onto a busy road.
“Indeed, in some instances, people with mobility difficulties may not be able to get around the blockage at all.
“Parking over the footpath is illegal and will put drivers at risk of an on-the-spot fine, as it contravenes our Local Laws and obstructs pedestrian access.
“We would ask drivers of all vehicles - whether they be cars, utilities or trucks - to find a legal parking spot and avoid stopping on the footpath or road edge of this section of Wright Road.
“City of Armadale Rangers Service will enforce the ‘No Stopping’ restrictions along this section of Wright Road, including the verge and footpath.
“Those caught parked on a footpath face an on-the-spot fine, while repeat offenders could have their vehicle towed and impounded, or be prosecuted through the courts,” said Mayor Zelones.
