Do you know someone, or a group, who deserves recognition for their outstanding contribution to their local community?

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards, have been rebranded as the Citizen of the Year Awards and Her Excellency the Governor of WA is the new Patron of the awards.

“We are encouraging community members to nominate inspirational citizens of the City of Armadale so that we can recognise these individuals who make a difference through their actions or dedicated service.

“The Citizen of the Year Awards provide the opportunity to show appreciation for individuals or groups who work to make our City a better place”, he said.

Categories for the awards include:

  • Community Citizen of the Year
    A person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community.
  • Community Citizen of the Year (Youth)
    A young person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community. To be eligible the person must be under 25 years of age on 26 January 2017.
  • Community Citizen of the Year (Senior)
    An older person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community. To be eligible the person must be over 65 years of age on 26 January 2017.
  • Active Citizenship (Group or Event)
    A group doing outstanding work, or for an event staged in the community during the past year.

“You may know an individual, or a group, displaying ideals of social justice, cultural diversity and social inclusion that makes a difference to the people around them and our greater Armadale community.

“These people are often the unsung heroes in our community, donating endless hours every year to help others, or assist with a cause they are passionate about, so it’s great to give them the praise and recognition they deserve.”
