Nominate your community hero
Release Date:
Tuesday, 3 October 2017

Being nominated for the active citizenship award is an honour according to Musical Director of the Classic Sounds Orchestra Association Rachel Johns, following the Association’s win at the 2017 awards.

“You don’t expect acknowledgement as a volunteer providing a community service, but when you are nominated and are lucky enough to receive the award, it is very much appreciated,” Rachel said.

The Classic Sounds Orchestra Association received five nominations for the Active Citizenship Award for Group or Event in the lead up to last year’s awards, recognising their work in the community, providing weekly performances in the community, and often visiting aged care homes in the area.

“It is uplifting for people to hear music. Music knows no bounds when it comes to age, background or economic status. It is something everybody can enjoy. We have seven different ensembles featuring musicians of all ages.”

“We very much appreciated our nominations and the subsequent award, as it is has given us confidence in what we are doing, that we are indeed delivering a valued service to the community. It also provides evidence to other organisations who are considering investment in our Association, that we are an active group recognised by our local Council and community,” Rachel said.

Nominations are now open for the 2018 Community Citizen of the Year Awards through until the end of October, and presented at a ceremony held as part of the Australia Day event in January next year.

The categories for nominations are:

  • Community Citizen of the Year
  • Community Citizen of the Year – Senior (65 years and over)
  • Community Citizen of the Year – Youth (16 to 30 years)
  • Active Citizenship Award (Group or Event)

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said there are so many worthy nominees in our community, in the form of volunteers, community groups and events.

“While our many volunteers and community groups do not serve their community for the accolades, it is fantastic that these annual awards give us a chance to acknowledge those who make a significant contribution to Armadale,” Mayor Zelones said.

To lodge a nomination for one or more of the categories, visit www.citizenshipawards.com.au. Nominations close on 31 October 2017.
