If you are inspired, amazed and impressed by a person or group making an outstanding contribution in our community, now is the time to advise the City of Armadale.

Nominations are open for the Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards, which will be presented during a special ceremony hosted by the City on January 26, 2015.

To be eligible, nominees must be an Australian citizen living or working in the City of Armadale and have made a noteworthy contribution during the year, or given outstanding service to the community over a number of years.

There are four nomination categories:

  • Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a person 25 years or older
  • Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a person under 25 years
  • Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a community group or event
  • City of Armadale Environmental Contribution of the Year Award

Last year’s winners were environmental campaigner Dr Ian Colquhoun a founding member of NFP Roleybushcare, members of the Armadale Kelmscott Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Inc., Mal Osborne for his work with Armadale Youth Resources, and Gerry Chapman and James Devine for their work within the community.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said many people know of worthy nominees but think that someone else will send in a nomination form, which often doesn’t happen.

“It is important that we acknowledge and encourage the active participation of our residents, who often spend a great deal of time and effort to make our community a better and safer place to live.

“We encourage people to take the initiative and nominate these outstanding role models that live within our community.

“There are many special contributions that should be recognised and acknowledged and the Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards help us to do that,” said Mayor Zelones.

Nominations must be received by the City by Friday 21 November.

Nomination forms are available at the City’s Administration Centre and the Armadale Kelmscott or Seville Grove libraries.
