Positive Ageing Session – 5000 Poppies Project
Tuesday 9 September
10 – 3pm
Armadale Library, Armadale Central Shopping Centre
We invite all community members to this craft session at the library, as people from all over Australia join together in making knitted, crocheted and felt poppies for the 5000 Poppies project.
The RSL project aims to plant a field of more than 20,000 poppies in Federation Square Melbourne on ANZAC Day 2015, as a stunning visual tribute to Australian service men and women for more than a century of service in all wars.
All poppies made in WA will go to Albany for the Centenary in November 2014 and will be displayed in the CBD and then taken to the City of Wanneroo’s Art Gallery for display on Remembrance Day 2014.
The poppies will then travel to Melbourne’s Federation Square for display on ANZAC Day 2015, before being returned to Perth for display during Remembrance Day 2015.
Following the project, artists will be invited to use the poppies to make artwork for an exhibition.
Please bring your own 3.5mm crochet hook and/or 3.5mm and 3.75mm knitting needles. Patterns and all other materials will be supplied.
Visit library.armadale.wa.gov.au or call 9399 0125 to book. If you want to get started, patterns are now available at our libraries.
