Nature makes itself at home at rejuvenated Minnawarra Park

A favourite of the locals contained within an area steeped in history, the newly invigorated Minnawarra Park was officially reopened to the public last week.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the extensive upgrades to the iconic park were part of the City’s ongoing commitment to providing great outdoor spaces for public enjoyment.

“During the park’s reopening, two ducklings that had recently fledged were enjoying a swim in the lake – which we took to be a sign of success for our efforts,” he said.

“New improvements to the park include a boardwalk, an illuminated arbour, walkways with LED lighting, and the addition of new trees, shrubs and design features.”

Dredging of the lake alone involved removing 3000 tonnes of sand and sludge which had accumulated since its construction in the early 1980s.

Forming part of the new landscaping is a massive 300 tonnes of local rock boulders which were transported to the Park.

“While the rocks add to the overall magnificence of the lake environment, they are imperative to its health as they improve accessibility and erosion control.”

The park was completed in time for the City’s Perth Kilt Run and Highland Gathering event in September which attracted 679 runners from all over the Perth region.
