On Wednesday 25 May at 11am, children across Australia will be read Jol and Kate Temples’ picture book I Got This Hat, as part of National Simultaneous Storytime.
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Now in its 16th year it is a colorful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the vital work being done in libraries and schools to develop young people’s literacy and numeracy skills.
This year’s event will take place at the same time in many Australian cities and towns, with I Got This Hat read to young children in organisations such as schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, book stores and libraries.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said this year it is Seville Grove Library’s turn to host the event as we alternate this session each year between our three libraries.
“We have participated in this initiative since it commenced and we are very proud to promote the importance of reading to our community.
“It is a fantastic campaign as it promotes Storytime, supports Australian authors and encourages parents to get involved and read to their children.
“We encourage everyone to wear their favourite hat and come and enjoy a fun morning at the library. After the storytelling there will be songs and a craft activity,” said Mayor Zelones.
This session is suitable for pre-school children. All are welcome to attend National Simultaneous Storytime at 11am on 25 May, at the Seville Grove Library - bookings are not required.
