Come along and celebrate the City of Armadale’s free NAIDOC event, on Tuesday 6 July as the Bob Blackburn Reserve is transformed into a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
The City’s NAIDOC celebrations are a free community event with live entertainment and activities for the whole family – everyone is welcome and it is a great chance to experience and celebrate Aboriginal culture.
The theme of this year’s NAIDOC Week – Heal Country! - calls on people to continue to seek greater protections for lands, waters, sacred sites and cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
Mayor Ruth Butterfield said recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s relationship with the land as part of their culture, is at the heart of this year’s celebrations.
“This is a great opportunity for all our community to experience this ancient culture and participate in a wide range of activities, which will include a traditional smoking ceremony to welcome everyone.
“NAIDOC week activities provide an opportunity to engage with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and presents a learning experience which broadens our understanding of their culture. The event aims to promote respect and celebrate the diversity of our community.”
The event will be held at Bob Blackburn Reserve, Seville Grove from 10am to 3pm.
