The City of Armadale has joined forces with WA’s premier sporting and community organisations to host the inaugural Armadale Nightfields Multi-Sport Day during the October school holidays.

The first event of its kind in Armadale, the program will emulate the success of similar Nightfields programs in Kwinana and Fremantle.

The sports program aims to provide a positive outlet for local youth to engage with during the school holidays, while also introducing them to the various sports to get involved with in the area.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said while existing Nightfields programs in other cities were traditionally football focused, Armadale was able to build the program to include other sports such as netball, basketball, touch rugby, soccer and cricket.

“Bringing young people together in a safe and supportive environment during the school holidays benefits the whole community,” he said.

“The overwhelming success of Nightfields in other cities has shown a desire among young people to become more active and socially connected members of the community.

“We’re delighted to host a day that provides a huge variety of fun and games to play – all for free.”

The Armadale Nightfields Multi-Sport Day is for people aged 6 to 16 and will be held on Thursday, 6 October, from 10am to 2pm at Gwynne Park Oval, Seventh Road, Armadale.

Registrations start at 9.30am and the program will group kids according to age before a round robin style is launched so that participants get to try all the sports on offer.

The City will provide a free lunch for all participants.

There will be special guest appearances from high profile sports stars from a variety of the sports.

There will also be a fun zone with a bouncy castle, games, activities and information stalls from local youth service providers where families can visit and younger family members/youth not involved in the sports can hang out.
