The City of Armadale’s popular Minnawarra Art Awards and Exhibition will be open for viewing from 29 March to 13 April.
The exhibition will be on display in the Armadale District Hall and feature works of nationally and internationally renowned artists including Sue Coode, Andrew Kay and Deborah Bonar.
This year’s awards attracted a very high calibre of artist. From nearly one hundred artist submissions the selection panel chose to invite 64 artists to submit works across a variety of mediums. Artists are invited to enter up to two works to the Awards.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said that as in previous years, he anticipated considerable interest in the Minnawarra Art Awards and exhibition.
The City held the first exhibition in 1997, to showcase the work of many talented artists from the local area, and over the years it has grown and developed into a much anticipated annual event on the City’s cultural calendar.
Each year, with the help of corporate supporters Stockland and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority, the City provides substantial prizes in the form of cash, acquisitions and commissions.
This year entrants will vie for cash prizes and acquisitions worth $16,000, including the coveted non-acquisitive Gerry Gauntlett Award of $5,000.
“I encourage everyone to come along to view some fantastic artworks that will be on display in a wide range of mediums from oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings, mixed media, sculpture, printmaking, photography, woodcraft, ceramics and glass,” said Mayor Zelones.
The Minnawarra Art Awards and Exhibition is free and open to the public from Saturday 29 March to Sunday 13 April, from 11am to 4pm daily at the Armadale District Hall, corner Jull Street and Church Avenue, Armadale.
