As the disruption caused by the spread of COVID-19 continues, our natural instincts are to protect our families, our colleagues and our businesses. All of us will be impacted in one way or another.
Business as usual is not an option. It’s important that Council and the City Administration continue to make informed decisions to keep our community as safe as possible. We want you to know we are doing everything we can to protect our people and our community, and ensure we are set up to minimise the risk of further disruption. We are following directives from the Federal Government and the WA Department of Health, and are monitoring the rapidly evolving situation.
We know it’s a really tough time for a lot of people in our community right now, including the City’s staff. The decision to cancel some events and close some of our facilities, in particular the Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre and the Armadale Arena gymnasium and crèche, was not taken without careful consideration of the impact on customers and our staff.
I want to assure everyone that essential services such as waste services and the maintenance of roads and parks will continue to be delivered at this point.
The events of the past week have been emotionally challenging for many people. Life as we know it has changed in unprecedented ways, but we are starting to see the community adapt and rise to the challenge, displaying strength, thoughtfulness and compassion for the more vulnerable amongst us.
At times like this, it’s even more important that people be considerate and support each other. I encourage everyone to remain calm, ask people if they are okay, and exercise patience and kindness.
We are in this together, and we’ll get through this together.
