This year will be an ANZAC Day like no other. There will be no dawn services with people huddling together in the darkness, no mid-morning marches to the local memorials and our streets will be empty, amid the coronavirus outbreak.
We might be apart this year, but there are still ways for us to stay connected to help commemorate ANZAC Day 2020.
TAKE PART IN A COMMUNITY ODE and record your immediate family reciting The Ode and posting it to social media.
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.
DO AN ACTIVITY WITH YOUR CHILDREN
– colour-in a poppy or make a paper wreath. Check out the templates on the City’s website and place these on your letter box or a front facing window for everyone to see.
To acknowledge the sacrifices of our servicemen and women, a minutes silence will be held at 6am across the country, wherever you may be; in your living room or at the end of your driveway, you
SHINE A LIGHT at the end of your driveway and join the RSL ANZAC Day Driveway Dawn Service at 5.55am.
TUNE INTO ABC RADIO and commercial radio stations for the dawn commemoration that will include The Ode, The Last Post and one minute’s silence #DrivewayDawnService.
TUNE INTO OUR LOCAL STATION
Heritage FM (107.3HFM) for a special ANZAC Day program with James Wray. Whilst this ANZAC Day will feel different, the sentiment and message remains the same – we will remember them. We are proud of our serviceman and thank them for the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
Lest we forget.
