The City of Armadale’s History House Museum will open its new exhibition Love & Marriage on Thursday 29 May.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said the idea for the exhibition stemmed from the recent generous donation of a wedding dress to the museum.

“One of our residents, Aileen McKay, was kind enough to donate a beautiful wedding dress to History House museum. It was worn by Sylvia Anderson (nee Bailey) on her wedding day to Eric Anderson on 4 March 1944, at St Matthews Church in Armadale.

“We thought this would be a great object to build the exhibition around.

“The exhibition will explore some of the many age old practices and traditions of weddings. It will also highlight the history of weddings in Armadale t hrough old photographs and newspaper extracts.

“This type of exhibition will appeal to people of all ages, and I encourage everyone to stop by History House to discover more about this well-known tradition,” said Mayor Henry Zelones.

History House Museum is located in the Minnawarra Historic Precinct on Jull Street, Armadale. For information and opening times call 9399 0670 or visit www.armadale.wa.gov.au.
