The Western Australian Planning Commission has endorsed the City of Armadale’s Local Planning Strategy (LPS) and Scheme Review Report, which outlines strategic directions to guide the significant growth and development forecast for the district over the next ten years.

Together with the South Metropolitan Peel Sub-Regional Structure Plan to be released in early 2017, this document will set out the vision for continued record breaking growth and development in the City of Armadale.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said implementation of both planning frameworks to 2025 and beyond will continue to grow an enhanced range of lifestyle and employment opportunities and new parks and facilities to be made available to the Armadale and neighbouring communities.

“These guiding documents will set out preferred locations for future homes and jobs and the most appropriate areas for infill development and residential density, providing greater choice and diversity in housing and lifestyle options.

“They will guide how important environmental assets and values will be protected and managed. The LPS has endorsed specific strategies for Council’s priority issues, including urban development and housing, employment creation, commercial activity centres, bushfire protection, hills land uses, and the protection of sites of high biodiversity, heritage and landscape values in rural hills locations”, he said.

The LPS will be followed by implementation of a series of revision amendments to the City’s Town Planning Scheme No.4, and new and revised local planning policies on a range of issues.

Continued growth and development of the Armadale City Centre, one of the City’s highest priorities, will be guided by the Armadale Strategic Metropolitan Centre Structure Plan currently being prepared through a study conducted over 2016 and 2017.

The updated Town Planning Scheme No.4 will continue the effective guidance and management of future growth and development throughout the City to 2025.

Once prepared for publication the endorsed Local Planning Strategy and Scheme Review Report will be available on the City’s website at www.armadale.wa.gov.au or at the Administration Centre, 7 Orchard Avenue, Armadale.
