The City of Armadale has embarked on a two-year partnership with Little Green Steps WA to help equip local children with the tools they need to contribute to a healthy, safe and sustainable future.

Little Green Steps WA is a not for profit program that supports Education for Sustainability in early learning services in WA.

The City has engaged a Little Green Steps Program Manager to assist educators, teachers, playgroup leaders and others working in early childhood settings to become more sustainable in both how they operate and what they teach children.

The program provides a way for sustainability to be integrated into child care services, pre schools, kindergartens, and schools - inspiring and empowering teachers, educators, children and families to work towards sustainability.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said the program aimed to promote a sense of responsibility, respect, empowerment and active participation.

“It’s a holistic approach that fits well into quality early childhood settings and this partnership is helping early childhood services connect with City services and other organisations that can help them and provide opportunities for them to share ideas and celebrate what they’re already doing,” he said “Initiatives can take many forms such as reducing water and energy use, constructing children’s gardens and worm farms, building cubby houses from bamboo grown at the centre, or even having a pet goat, or chickens.

“By working together, we can set our children up with the tools to help us create a more sustainable future for all.”

Early childhood services wishing to participate in the program can contact the City of Armadale on 9394 5000.
