The City of Armadale is proudly supporting Garage Sale Trail, a national day of garage sales.
The Garage Sale Trail goes beyond just holding a garage sale, it promotes positive community connections and enables residents to reduce waste, make money and fund raise through an event that is well promoted and supported by a national campaign.
Mayor Henry Zelones said this is a great initiative and so good for the community to have the opportunity to recycle rather than items going straight into landfill.
“Whether you are looking for that unique something special, want to de-clutter that spare bedroom or just to get to know your neighbours, Garage Sale Trail is for you.
“It’s free for sellers to register their sale through the Garage Sale Trail website and for buyers to locate sales nearby,” said Mayor Zelones.
To help inspire residents to participate in the Garage Sale Trail, the City will host a de-cluttering workshop at the Armadale Library on Tuesday 7 October at 2pm.
The workshop will help residents discover ways to simplify their life, reduce their environmental impact and stress levels and is a perfect way to prepare for the Garage Sale Trail 2014.
Mayor Zelones added that the City urges everyone to think before you dispose of items left over after the garage sale, as they can be donated to the local op shop, listed on sites such as freecycle.org or Facebook buy, sell, and swap groups.
“Armadale residents can also take reusable items to the Drop ‘n’ Shop for free, and know they are helping the environment.
“Refurbishing and reusing household items and discarded building materials helps to conserve raw materials and save on the energy cost of producing new replacements, which is a win-win situation for everyone,” said Mayor Zelones.
The Drop ’n’ shop is located at the entrance to the Armadale Landfill and Recycling Facility, Hopkinson Road in Hilbert.
This year the Garage Sale Trail will take place on Saturday 25 October and registrations are now open.
