After detailed consultation with the community, the City of Armadale has completed redevelopment works at John Dunn Reserve as part of the City of Armadale Sporting and Community Hub Master Planning Implementation.

The site has undergone major transformation from what was a historical tip site that was later grassed and irrigated for overflow training use from the main oval.

The City conducted upgrades to the front playing fields including consolidating and levelling the playing surfaces, installation of new irrigation systems, planting 2.5 hectares of new turf, two new viable groundwater bores and new sports lighting systems.

“We began the community consultation process in 2012. City staff, consultants, local clubs and residents worked together to create a plan for what the reserve and community needed,” said Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP.

“In order to mitigate any potential surface issues in the future the City undertook detailed analysis to determine the appropriate construction requirements. Existing issues, resulting from the fields being originally built on a historical tip site, have been overcome through heavy compaction of the east field and importation of more than 11 tonne of sand.

“The fields are now being used by local clubs for training sessions and the feedback has been very positive.

“We appreciate the time, effort and input the clubs and the local community provided through this process.”

The City of Armadale funded $960,000 towards the John Dunn Reserve Redevelopment project.
