The City of Armadale’s History House Museum’s latest exhibition, In the Home, is currently on display.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said the exhibition will explore how Australian homes have changed over the last 100 years and the oral histories will give an insight into daily life and living conditions in early WA.

“Part of the exhibition at History House includes objects that were used every day, and shows how the size of our blocks to the number of rooms changed with time.

“Travel back through the decades to when the early European settlers lived in tents and constructed their homes with materials such as wood shingles or paper bark and other bush materials that were available.

“Bring the kids along, so they can learn how their great grandparents lived in the early days without the modern appliances found in today’s homes; see if they know which room a wringer or mangle was used in, or what a cruet set is.

“Young visitors to the exhibition so far have been amazed at the location of the family bathroom one hundred years ago, and fascinated by the chamber pot and its use.

“This exhibition is bound to appeal to people of all ages and to those who fondly remember the ‘little house’ and cooking over an Aga stove,” said Mayor Henry Zelones.

History House Museum is located in the Minnawarra Historic Precinct on Jull Street, Armadale. For information and opening times call 9394 5670 or visit www.armadale.wa.gov.au.
