Higher Education Institution promised to Armadale
Release Date:
Wednesday, 1 May 2019

More young people could see themselves completing their tertiary studies in a multi-purpose state of the art TAFE campus in Armadale if the Federal Labor party is elected on Saturday 18 May.

Premier Mark McGowan and Education and Training Minister The Hon. Sue Ellery MLC have announced that they would match the Federal Labor commitment of $10 million to build a $20 million, multi-purpose state of the art TAFE in Armadale, if elected.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP welcomed the news stating a higher education institution in the region is important to create designated pathways for Armadale students to gain better access to higher education.

“The City has been advocating for funding for a tertiary education facility for some time now. The Federal and State Government’s commitment will help our local community.

“With our ever increasing population, having a facility large enough to accommodate the growth in our area is very important. People from the south eastern suburbs will really benefit from this.”

A multi-purpose TAFE in the City Centre would replace the three existing training facilities in Armadale and provide aspirational learning opportunities for the region’s lower socio economic areas.

There are currently 27 primary and 12 high schools in the City, with more to come in Armadale.

“The City clearly needs a pathway and improved access to higher education services for its younger citizens.

“A new TAFE in a centralised location would enable young people and adults wanting to study in the region, access to a higher education facility to reach their full academic potential.”
