Entries for the City of Armadale’s FOCUS Photographic Competition 2019 open on Friday 1 February.

The competition is open to all adult amateur photographers in Western Australia, and this year the theme has two categories Crossing the Line and Pre-1990.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the theme behind the Crossing the Line category is to encourage photographers to capture how the local railway level crossings look today, as several are planned to be relocated underground in coming years.

“With the second category we are looking for those old photographs that date back pre-1990 and feature a part of the district; such as a building, park, shops or streets within the City”, he said.

Hosted by the Birtwistle Local Studies Library, the FOCUS photo competition’s goal for 2019 is to capture historical reality, favouring truth over beauty or visual experimentation in either category.

The aim is to capture both these elements in one image, as historians like to see every detail rather than just a glamourous shot where the finer details are absent.

Enter your photograph online in the FOCUS Photographic Competition 2019, open from Friday 1 February to 31 March 2019.

Winners will receive cash prizes and an acrylic mounted print of their image. For full details of prizes, terms and conditions visit library.armadale.wa.gov.au/focus-2019.
