Forward works will begin in January to mark the first stage of the City of Armadale’s Roleystone Theatre redevelopment.
In order to reduce the overall project timeline, a forward works package (partial demolition) was awarded to Focus Demolition and Asbestos Removal.
The forward works will run concurrently with the finalisation of the design and documentation work for the theatre proper. This will ensure that there can be an immediate start once the tender for construction is awarded.
The demolition works will include the fly tower and ancillary buildings. The original auditorium will be conserved in accordance with best heritage practice, and will be protected during the demolition process.
“The Roleystone Theatre is the cultural heart of Roleystone and has been at the centre of community life ever since it first opened its doors in 1933,” said City of Armadale Mayor, Ruth Butterfield. “It was important that the redevelopment project preserved the auditorium, an art-deco original, which is on the City of Armadale Municipal Heritage Inventory.
“Council and the wider Roleystone community is excited to see this project get underway and for the Roleystone Theatre to once again be a hub for the performing arts in the City of Armadale.”
The construction tender is expected to be advertised in late February or early March 2021, with the project due to be completed in the first quarter of 2022.
A project signboard will be erected on Brookton Highway in order to keep members of the public aware of the works.
