Release Date:
Monday, 23 July 2018

The City of Armadale is set to host a series of local, national and international acclaimed community development specialists as part of an Envision Armadale speaker series, beginning in August.

Envision Armadale will bring local residents, community groups, local businesses and local government professionals together to participate in inspiring workshops. These workshops are designed to empower and build the capacity of the community, creating a vibrant and inclusive City.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said over the next six months a number of renowned specialists in their fields will be brought to the City of Armadale to present capacity building workshops.

“This is a unique opportunity to inspire the community to work together with the support of local government and hear from experts in their field about practical examples that have worked in other communities globally and how this grass roots approach can work in the City of Armadale.

“The presentations and workshops will provide a tool kit that will empower participants and encourage partnerships between local groups and organisations for the betterment of the communities they live work and play in.

“The City is proud to provide a unique community building experience by engaging a range of speakers who would otherwise only be accessible at a conference or industry forum.”

The first talk in the series will kick off with renowned international community development practitioner, Jim Diers on Tuesday 7 August from 5.30 to 8.30pm at Avocados Café.

“Jim Diers has a passion for getting people engaged with their communities and in the decisions that affect their lives. During his talk he will discuss ways to mobilise community, community as the key to public safety, community-led revitalisation of neighbourhoods, government, business and community working together.

“Local residents, businesses and non-residents are invited to attend the speaker series,” he said.

Jim Diers’ talk is free for those who live and work within the City of Armadale and $30 for non-residents.
