Dogs of the Dale competition Winner announced
Release Date:
Friday, 22 June 2018

The City of Armadale has crowned Zac the Maltalier the Dog of the Dale, following the City's popular #DogsofTheDale social media competition.

Zac's human, Leissa Hanley of Kelmscott, was notified of her canine's rise to fame on social media following her submission of the award winning photo of Zac wearing a red super hero mask.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said that the panel's decision had not been an easy one, and that the photo of Zac had been chosen based on its overall appeal.

“This competition, promoting the benefits of responsible dog ownership in the City of Armadale, has been a huge success, receiving a really positive response from our residents.”

“The competition was all about our residents sharing photos of their dogs that showed them in their element – we were looking for creative and interesting photos that best displayed our furry friends' personalities and canine cuteness.”

Over the four week period, the City received over 300 entries, and 20 dogs were shortlisted across four categories (puppies, small dogs, medium dogs, large dogs). The four category winners were decided via a public vote, receiving over 500 votes from residents. The photo of Zac was then chosen out of the four category winners as the overall 'Dog of The Dale' by the City's judging panel.

“In the end, our judges felt that the photo of Zac ticked all the boxes, and was just a really fun photo of a clearly well-loved dog, who enjoys getting out and enjoying his City.”

“We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the competition and congratulate our winners Zac and Leissa.”

Leissa and Zac won the grand prize consisting of a $250 pet photography package from 7 to 1 Photography, and a $1000 voucher for Better Pets and Gardens in Kelmscott.
