City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP has congratulated Mark McGowan on his Party’s decisive victory in Saturday’s WA State Election.

“I am sure Mr McGowan is elated at the scale of the Labor Party’s resounding win, a tribute to the hard work put in by himself and the Party’s team,” he said.

“What is clear from this emphatic result is that Western Australians are relying on the new Government to effect positive change and we look forward to working with them to achieve this.

“The City of Armadale is reliant on State Government support to provide the services, facilities and major road and rail infrastructure for its rapidly growing district population and is grateful for the commitments made during the election campaign.

“We envisage that the new government will remain resolute in its commitment to advance the $145 million duplication of Armadale Road and fund the $166 million construction of the Armadale Road Bridge and freeway link. These two major infrastructure projects remain a top priority for the City and their completion will ensure our community has efficient access to vital jobs and services.

“Similarly, we look forward to solutions to upgrade the Armadale rail line and fix safety and congestion at Denny Avenue, Kelmscott, as part of Labor’s Metronet Plan. We are very keen to progress consultation with the Government on how Metronet can improve public transport in the south east.

“We are also genuinely excited to see Metronet reach fruition, particularly the extension of the Armadale Rail line to Byford by 2023.”

Mayor Zelones said election commitments to the people of Armadale were all gratefully acknowledged including $100,000 to the Armadale Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, $40,000 towards the dog exercise area at John Dunn Sporting Reserve, and $110,000 to bring the PCYC back to Armadale where it can again run its successful Off the Rails youth program.

“We also anticipate the new Labor Government fulfilling the former Government’s fully funded ($86 million) Armadale Police/Justice project. Due to start in mid 2017, this project will greatly enhance community safety in our region,” he said.

“I wish Mr McGowan all the best for what lies ahead and look forward to working with his new Government to advance the interests of our great State, and the City of Armadale.”
