Community Connect South
Release Date:
Monday, 14 September 2015

Armadale Road will be widened in a major victory for the Community Connect South (CCS) campaign.

The cities of Armadale and Cockburn have welcomed the Australian Government’s commitment of $116 million, along with $29 million from the State, for the full duplication of Armadale Road (Anstey to Tapper).

“This critical road project will finally become a reality,” Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM JP said.

“This news will delight the Armadale and Forrestdale business communities and is a major victory for the Community Connect South campaign. Our cities continue to experience sizeable population growth and it is critical residents have efficient access to jobs and services.

“It is clear the CCS campaign has struck a chord with local residents and community groups who have embraced the initiative in force.”

Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett JP said the Armadale investment was a much needed outcome and the campaign would continue to advocate for a holistic approach to solving congestion in the Armadale and Cockburn areas.

“The other critical piece of road infrastructure for these two communities, the North Lake bridge and freeway interchange linking North Lake Road with Armadale, remains a vital part of the solution to fixing congestion in our region,” Mayor Howlett said.

“The CCS initiative is a timely reminder of the true power of the collective community voice, and we will continue our campaign on behalf of our local communities.”

Since the commencement of the Community Connect South campaign in late August, close to 19,000 emails have been sent to both State and Federal Members of Parliament and by-election candidates to support our fight to reduce delays and improve access along Armadale Road and at Cockburn Central.
