The City of Armadale’s Visitor Centre is currently seeking a pool of energetic, enthusiastic and passionate local volunteers to train as pole walking group leaders.

Pole walking is a fun and convenient walking activity, renowned as an exercise that engages the whole body and suits everyone regardless of age or level of fitness.

Mayor Henry Zelones said there are many health benefits attributed to walking with poles.

“Pole walking originated in the 1930s when the cross country ski coaches of Finland used it to keep their athletes in peak performance during the off season.

“It naturally aligns your spine and strengthens your core, and uses over 50 per cent more muscles than if you were walking without poles.

“This is a great chance to learn a new physical activity and keep fit, while meeting like-minded people from within your local community,” said Mayor Zelones.

All volunteer pole walking group leaders will be provided with training, at no cost. The training will equip them with knowledge of the technique, and other skills such as first aid and group management.

If you enjoy taking an active role within your community and would like to be part of this group, contact the City of Armadale Visitor Centre Coordinator at 9399 0414 or visitorcentre@armadale.wa.gov.au.
