The City of Armadale will upgrade Railway Avenue following a decision at Monday night’s meeting of Council.

The City will widen and resurface Railway Avenue, between Merrifield Avenue and Westfield Road.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said the upgrade would involve widening of the street to allow provision of turning lanes and improvements to pathways and pedestrian crossing points.

"The upgrade will not only improve the street’s accessibility but also improve traffic circulation, safety and turning manoeuvrers during peak hours.

"Railway Avenue is such a central road in our City so it’s important the road is safe and easy to access.

"The total upgrade to the road will cost $660,000, which includes a major Main Roads WA Improvement Grant of $425,000, and a PTA contribution towards bus and car parking and turning lanes."

"This is a great example of how the City works to improve our streets by accessing outside funding and reducing the cost to ratepayers," said Mayor Henry Zelones.

The upgrade is expected to start within the next eight weeks.
