Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre employee, Damon Lee, has taken out the David Aldous Young Professional of the Year Award for 2020 at the Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) WA Awards of Excellence.
Held on Thursday, August 28, at Wembley Golf Course, the award seeks to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions made by an emerging professional (under 30 years of age), who has made a significant contribution to the Parks and Leisure industry.
“Having started in the industry as a Swim Instructor, Damon now leads the Swim School team at AFAC. Since AFAC opened in March 2019, Damon has been responsible for developing the program and driving the continued growth and success of the Active Armadale Swim School,” said Mayor, Ruth Butterfield.
“Damon is deeply committed to ensuring everyone in the Armadale community is able to learn the essential life skill of swimming. It was a pleasure to see Damon recognised in front of his peers, for his outstanding achievements.”
The City was also a finalist in the Strategic Planning Award category for its Parks Facility Strategy, Playspace Award category for the Memorial Park upgrade, and Best Use of Technology Award category for AFAC.
As winner of the WA Young Professional Award, Damon is now a finalist in the Young Professional of the Year Award category at the National Parks and Leisure Australia Awards of Excellence, to be held later this year.
