The City of Armadale will celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day at the Harold King Centre on Wednesday 8 August.
Children's Day is all about helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children stand tall and feel connected and proud in culture. The theme for 2018 is Celebrating Our Children for 30 Years.
City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the day is an opportunity for all Australians to show their support for Indigenous children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that community, culture and family play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
“We have a strong Indigenous community in the City of Armadale, and we're incredibly proud to host this event which provides local children the opportunity to explore and learn about Indigenous culture.
“The children will be entertained with a range of activities from face painting to a visit from Ranger Red with his native animals, who will teach children how to care for and feed the animals.”
The Champion Centre provides a range of culturally-based programs and activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the City of Armadale, funded by the Australian Government's Indigenous Advancement Strategy.
