The City of Armadale is inviting all families in the local community to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, and enjoy a special luncheon at the Champion Centre on Thursday 7 August from 10am to 1pm.
The theme this year is Kids in Culture: Strong Proud Resilient, which celebrates the importance of connection to family, community and culture for children’s development and wellbeing.
Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones said this event is a chance to raise awareness of the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and will coincide with community celebrations being held across Australia.
“There will be a range of activities to keep the kids entertained, with a visit from Ranger Red and his reptiles, birds and dingo to educate the children on our native animals.
“Other activities will include Dennis Simmons who will tell traditional Dreamtime stories, and stories of Noongar history, with Aboriginal dancing performed by the Maar Koodjal Dance Group.
“There will also be a range of service providers on hand with information for parents, carers and educators.
“We have a strong Indigenous community in the City of Armadale, and are incredibly proud to host this event which will provide local children the opportunity to explore and learn about Indigenous culture,” said Mayor Zelones.
This is a free event and everyone is welcome.
