The City of Armadale’s Six Seasons project has officially launched, with our Kambarang season guided hikes at Forrestdale Wetlands selling out. The Six Season Trails project was funded by a Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) grant. The City was awarded the maximum of $25,000 as part of their Hiking Participation Grants funding round for 2024/2025.
These trail hikes are being conducted in partnership with the multiple award winning company, The Hike Collective.
The six trails chosen are listed below:
Kambarang Bidi (October/November) – Forrestdale Wetlands
Birak Bidi (December/January)– Armadale Settlers Common
Bunuru Bidi (February/March)– Churchman’s Bushland Trails
Djeran Bidi (April/May)– Bungendore
Makuru Bidi (June/July)– Wungong Gorge
Djilba Bidi–(August/September) Roley Pools Heritage Trails
The tours of Forestdale Wetlands have been highly successful, with many guests travelling from outside the City of Armadale to take part.
Mayor Ruth Butterfield said: “The City of Armadale has a rich diversity of natural area, and visiting the Six Seasons Trails is a great way to experience our unique seasonal flora and fauna.
“We are grateful for the DLGSC grant funding to help us create a year round trail series, and encourage both locals and visitors to spend time in nature exploring our trails.”
Tours on these trails can be booked via the Hike Collectives website, subject to availability.
In 2025, the City will be developing signage and other assets to showcase these trails and ensure that visitors across the Six Seasons can explore at their leisure.
Additionally, the City is working with Beelya Cultural Tours and WAITOC (Western Australian Indigenous Tour Operators Council) to develop cultural tours on the same trails throughout the Noongar seasons. These cultural walks will include; a Welcome to Country, bush tucker tastings, demonstrations of shelter building, and yarning. The inaugural tours will take place during Kambarang at Forrestdale Wetlands on Saturday 23 and 30 November 2024.
These tours cost $80 and can be booked on the Beeyla Cultural Tours website.
