The City of Armadale is excited to announce that Piara Waters library is now officially open. The official opening took place on Friday 30 August 2024, with the library open to the public from Monday 2 September 2024.

The state-of-the-art Piara Waters Library was funded with $8.3 million from the City of Armadale (City) and $1 million from the WA Government, gratefully received through the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries (DLGSC). The City thanks Member for Jandakot, Yaz Mubarakai MLA for his support in advocating for the DLGSC funding and representing the Hon David Templeman, Minister for Sport and Recreation at the opening.

Member for Jandakot, Yaz Mubarakai said“ By supporting the future of our young people, the State Government invested $1 million to ensure a dedicated recreational youth space would be included in this brand-new public facility. The completion of the Piara Waters Library and the youth zone area is truly a positive asset for the community as a whole”.

Mayor Ruth Butterfield said: “We are delighted to open Piara Waters Library and provide our local residents a purpose-built facility that they can enjoy seven days a week. This is a great asset for the whole community, especially the specialised youth area made possible by the support from the WA Government through DLGSC.

“This library will allow people of all ages to benefit from its wide array of offerings, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will make in the community.”

The new library will provide a range of ongoing sessions, special events and workshops for all ages, some of which begin from opening week. Others will be added in due course. The library is a purpose-built facility which uses contemporary biophilic design principles to maximise natural light throughout the building, increasing connectivity with the natural environment, across it’s 1,000sqm of floor space.

Piara Waters Library is formed of three distinct sections:

The main lending space has minimal pillars to contribute to an open, airy space. It includes a large welcoming foyer, mobile library shelving which can hold up to 25,000 items, a children’s reading area, ample seating in a range of configurations, a self-service issue and return section and two meeting rooms that are available for community use outside of the libraries opening hours.

Designed in consultation with local young people, the youth area will provide a key point of difference for the library. It is 125sqm and has a large open space, configurable for a range of different activities, high spec computers with film, music and sound editing software, a multipurpose room, and a creative room equipped with industry standard equipment for sound and video recording, mixing and editing.

The public computer area will have 10 public computers with internet access, office productivity software and printing capabilities. These are in separate section of the library to provide opportunities for collaboration and individual work. There will be wireless internet provided across the entire library for customers who wish to use their own device.

Piara Waters Library is located at 352 Wright Road, Piara Waters, and will be open seven days a week. The library will serve a population of 35,000 people and nine schools in the suburbs of Piara Waters and Harrisdale.
