Armadale Volunteer Services and the City of Armadale will host a volunteer celebration for the 25th Anniversary of National Volunteer Week.
Volunteers living and/or volunteering in the City of Armadale are invited to attend the event on Wednesday 14 May, at the Armadale District Hall starting at 2.30pm.
'Celebrate the power of volunteering' is the theme for this year's 25th Anniversary of National Volunteer Week which is the largest celebration of Volunteers in Australia. It provides the opportunity to highlight the important role of volunteers in our community and say thank you to more than 6 million Australians who volunteer each year.
Mayor Henry Zelones said volunteers play a vital role in the City, helping a vast array of community organisations that would otherwise not be able to provide services to people in need of assistance.
"For many organisations volunteers are vital to their long-term success and sustainability. Whether it is the arts, cultural, conservation or recreational groups in our community they all depend upon these volunteers for their existence.
"This year the afternoon tea will be catered for by students from Armadale Senior High School's Home Economics class.
Entertainment will be provided by James Flynn, one of Australia’s leading jazz vocalists with a repertoire including Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Bobby Darin.
"Volunteers will be presented with a tulip bulb as a thank you gift, donated by Araluen Botanic Park. People will be encouraged to participate in the annual planting day at Araluen, where 120,000 tulip bulbs are planted in preparation for the annual tulip display in spring,” said Mayor Zelones.
The City's Parks and Reserves staff will plant a tulip tribute to all volunteers in the shape of a red V at the corner of Church Avenue and Armadale Road.
Bookings are essential. To reserve a place, contact Armadale Volunteer Services on 9399 0642 or volunteering@armadale.wa.gov.au by 9 May, 2014.
