The City of Armadale at the Council Meeting held on Tuesday 28 January, unanimously resolved to make a $20,000 donation to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund – Parkerville Fire Appeal to assist the community in its recovery efforts.
The fund, established in 1961, provides financial support and services to assist and alleviate the pressure placed on communities that have been affected by any natural disaster occurring within Western Australian.
Mayor Henry Zelones said the news of the bushfire in Mundaring destroying 44 homes bought back so many memories of Armadale’s bushfire back in February 2011.
“We immediately offered the advice and support of the City staff to the Shire of Mundaring and have now decided to add a financial contribution.
“We are well aware of the impact of a fire of this nature and the devastating loss and damage to property, which can cause people’s lives to change so suddenly and dramatically.
“The Parkerville community has suffered enormously, with many residents facing such a big job rebuilding and cleaning up the after the fire, and we hope that our contribution assists them in maintaining community spirit at a time when it is most needed.
“Although we can’t help alleviate people’s emotional suffering we can attempt to lessen their personal hardship through our financial assistance, and allow them to get on with planning and rebuilding their lives and homes,” said Mayor Zelones.
The City’s donation will be forwarded directly to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund – Parkerville Fire Appeal (LMDRF) at the City of Perth.
Through donating to the LMDRF you can also help those suffering, with 100% of the funds dispensed very quickly to the residents affected by the fire.
