The City of Armadale formally launched its Public Health and Wellbeing Plan last month, at the newly opened Piara Waters Sports Pavilion.
Representatives from state government bodies, the not-for-profit sector, local schools and other local government bodies attended the launch to hear the City’s plans to promote and enhance community health and wellbeing.
The Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, based on local health evidence and priorities, and community consultation, is a three year strategic plan providing a framework to protect, promote and enhance community health and wellbeing.
The City of Armadale is one of the first Local Governments in Western Australia to develop such a plan under the proposed WA Public Health Bill 2008.
Mayor Zelones said the Plan is by no means the beginning of the City working toward supporting a healthier community.
“The Plan pulls together current City initiatives and proposed future activities to consider the impacts on the health and wellbeing of our community.
During the launch the Heart Foundation of WA’s representative, Dorte Hansen, presented Mayor Henry Zelones with the recently awarded Highly Commended, Heart Foundation Local Government Award.
Mayor Henry Zelones said “The City of Armadale was the sole WA local government to receive recognition in 2014, and we are very proud of the great achievement.
“The award recognises Local Governments that are creating healthy communities by providing positive environments and initiatives that support physical activity, healthy lifestyles and a sense of community connection.
“The City’s Public Health and Wellbeing Plan will provide the framework to support our community to enjoy good health, and will cultivate a community that is supportive of health and wellbeing opportunities for our future generations,” said Mayor Zelones.
