Indigenous dancer at Australia Day
Release Date:
Friday, 17 January 2020

There’s plenty of reasons to get out of the house this Australia Day and celebrate everything that makes this country great!

This year’s City of Armadale activities will kick off from 5pm, when Minnawarra Park will transform into a family friendly zone from 5 to 9.30pm on Sunday 26 January.

Boasting a jam-packed program that includes carnival rides, and a variety of local food van cuisines available for purchase; free activities include a water fun zone, children’s games and more.  To top it all off, the City will be featuring a stellar line up of live entertainment from local talent.

City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the City is committed to delivering quality, alcohol and smoke free family friendly events that the community can look forward to in a stress free environment.

“Community events are an integral part of a healthy and connected community and many families look forward each year to Armadale’s Australia Day event. It’s one of our biggest annual events and thousands of visitors are expected to come to Armadale on the 26th, which also helps support our local businesses.”

The fireworks display is planned to go ahead from 8.30pm and will be played in sync to the all Australian soundtrack broadcast over Heritage 107.3FM radio.

In support of the communities affected by bushfires in the eastern states, the City has arranged for the Salvation Army to collect donations on the night.

“Thank you to everyone who has provided great ideas regarding donations to bushfire recovery efforts. Our thoughts continue to be with the communities who have been affected by the bushfires, the firefighters and the volunteers who have put themselves at risk every day to save people, homes and animals.

The City takes the safety of our community very seriously, and as with all large events, there are regulations to meet and plans are in place to manage risks, which includes the fireworks.

A decision to move or cancel, such a well-loved and free community event that has been held safely for many, many years would be significant and not without cost.” said Mayor Butterfield.

Road closures will be in place and everyone is encouraged to plan ahead.  Transperth will be running their daily train and bus services to get you there and back.   Assistance dogs with suitably marked dog coat or identification harness’ are permitted.
