Children’s Book Week is in its 70th year and the City of Armadale is joining the celebrations with an interactive storytelling session featuring Kylie Howarth, author and illustrator of children’s picture books Fish Jam and Chip.

Join us at the Armadale Library on Saturday 20 August at 2pm for a fish-tastic read-aloud session with Kylie and twist your tongue around some scooba-dooba scat singing fun.

Children will have the opportunity to mix up creatures to create their own fishy characters during a draw-along Jazz fish demonstration.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP urged families to participate in Children’s Book Week by visiting one of the City’s three libraries at Armadale, Kelmscott and Seville Grove during the week of festivities.

“As a parent, one of the greatest things you can do for your children is to instil in them a love of reading and books.

“Every year schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators.

“Children’s Book Week, which runs from 20 to 26 August, is a great time to introduce your children to our library services and all the great books available on the shelves.

“People may not be aware that the City of Armadale’s Library Service holds regular storytelling sessions and organises other book and craft-based activities for children, both in-term and during school holidays”, he said.

Kylie has just been shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council of Australia 2016, Book of the Year – Crichton Award.

Children’s Book Week is the longest-running children’s festival in Australia and this year has a theme of ‘Australia! Story Country’. This event is suitable for children aged four to 10 years. Bookings are essential, contact 9394 5125 or visit library.armadale.wa.gov.au.
