Photography enthusiasts are being urged to pick up their camera and start capturing local history for a chance to win a share of $1400 in the 2019 FOCUS Photographic Competition.

The City of Armadale Birtwistle Local Studies Library’s annual local history photographic competition will open from 1 February to 31 March 2019 and will provide amateur adult photographers an opportunity to showcase their works by capturing historical reality.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said people with a passion or flair for photography are encouraged to pick up their camera before the competition opens and capture history in the area this festive season.

“This year’s theme is Crossing the Line, which will document our current rail crossings before they transform in the future.

“Some of our local rail crossings will soon change as they will be relocated or moved underground or lifted.

“Now is the time to use your photographic talents to document the way our rail crossings look in the current era.”

The second category is a Pre-1990 open theme, encouraging locals to find the treasures in their photo albums and get scanning.

“Any pre-1990 photograph that features a part of the district, such as a park, shops or streets within the City of Armadale could be awarded a prize.”

“The photos will be used to help build the Birtwistle Local Studies Library’s photographic collection.

“Historians enjoy seeing every detail of a scene, so the challenge for photographers is to balance their artistic flair and technique with faithful accuracy,” added Mayor Zelones.

The winners will also receive a large acrylic mounted print of their image.
